Working with Sound

Other Tools: GarageBand

As the name suggests, GarageBand is a music-centric platform. It can also be used to record and edit narration and podcasts. Unlike Audacity, which is available for both Mac and PC, GarageBand is only available on Mac and, if not already installed, can be downloaded for free. After exporting my Exercise 4 files from Audacity, I was able to easily import them into GarageBand to show you the same basic track set up. As you can see, GarageBand has a slicker interface.

The main difference between Audacity and GarageBand is that GarageBand is intended more for arranging than recording or editing, though it can be used for all three. Audacity is specifically an audio editing platform. If you are interested in learning more about GarageBand, the following video provides a nice overview of how to use the platform to record and edit podcasts:
A written version of the video tutorial is also available on the BussSprout website.
