Welcome to Working with Sound: Introduction to Audio Recording and Editing an asynchronous workshop that will help you gain or improve your sound related skills by address the basics of sound, sound recording, and sound editing. The workshop has been designed to provide you with range of possibilities on how to produce the best quality sound you can given a variety of conditions be it that you are recording in your home, office or in a sound dedicated space.
Here are the details:
• The focus will be on voice recording, be it for voiceover/narration or podcasting, and the editing of those recordings.
• Audacity, a free open source application available for Mac and PC, will be the primary tool discussed. Garage Band and iMovie, which is freely available for Macs
What you will learn:
• The basics of how sound works and how to be more conscious of sound.
• What considerations to make when recording sound.
• The difference between microphone types and how to use microphone more effectively.
• Basic sound editing and sound filtering techniques. (This includes how to improve lower quality recordings.)
