Celebrating Women in Music: Launch Event 2018
The Celebrating Women in Music launch event took place on February 9, 2018. Due to a severe winter snowstorm, Practicums Amy and Angelique were unable to reach Banff for the scheduled event date of February 8th. However, despite Mother Nature’s change of plans, the evening was a success and people from across the Banff Centre and the Town of Banff attended to learn about Ann Southam and Ina Dennekamp and to hear “live” performances of compositions by Ann Southam and performed by Roísín Adams.
Attendees were able to enjoy an immersive experience throughout the Paul D. Fleck Library and Archives as TV and listening stations showcased performances of works by Ann Southam and Ina Dennekamp’s interviews with women composers, display cases held materials from the Library collection, and a display of select archival documents, drawings, and photographs from the Ann Southam collection in the Reading Room.Róisín Adams recorded performances of Three Quiet Songs by Ann Southam, the scores for which are held in the collection at the Paul D. Fleck Library and Archives at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. These are the only known recordings of these beautiful pieces, which can be enjoyed by clicking the links below.
