3. Founding members of the Beta Phi Mu Alpha Chapter, 1948 This photograph shows the first ever meeting of the Alpha Chapter of Beta Phi Mu. Founded in 1948, this is an honors society specifically recognizing individuals in the library field. Since 1998, this chapter has been associated with the American Library Association. On their official website, they state their motto is "Aliis inserviendo consumor", which translates to "Consumed in the service of others."
