Chetco River Watershed

What are Watersheds?
The Chetco River is the largest coastal watershed in Southwest Oregon. It flows through Curry County, draining 352 square miles of land before emptying into the Pacific Ocean. Its major tributaries include Box Canyon Creek, Tincup Creek, Boulder Creek, Mislatnah Creek, Eagle Creek, South Fork, Emily Creek, North Fork, and Jacks Creek. Most of the watershed is located within the Kalmiopsis Wilderness which is characterized by a warm Mediterranean climate. Elevations range from sea level to approximately 5,098 feet on Pearsoll Peak. Human activities such as logging, mining, agriculture, land development have led to ecological issues within the watershed which is why conservation and ecological restoration plans have been designed to mitigate these effects (Massingill, 2001).
