Excerpt: "The First or Lower School was designed for the sons of those whose means were too limited to provide their children with a good classical education.
...
In 1844 the fees were raised to twelve shillings and sixpence per quarter for sons of members, and fifteen shillings for others, with the half crown fee for the use of books, &c."
