URLF Project: PromotingQueerLiteracy

Teacher Resources

Queer rights are a very recent development in the long history of human society. What would have been unimaginable twenty years ago is common place today. This wasn't an accident of history but rather the dedicated work of educators and stake holders to normalize queerness and spread awareness of what it means to be queer. It remains possible that these rights could be taken away and it is therefore imperative to continue to teach queer history and what it means to be queer. Additionally a unified and purposeful education on queerness actively helps to dispel myths and divisions within the community as a lack of organizational cohesiveness has lead to generations rehashing the same arguments ad nauseam for decades.
These resources present reading guides and potential assignments for the teaching of HeartstopperSnapdragon, A quick and easy guide to queer and trans identities, Kiss Number 8, and Gender Queer. Curriculum for the first two books are more aimed for 9th and 10th grade students while Kiss Number 8 and Gender Queer are modeled for 11th and 12th grade classes. The assignments are meant for use in conjunction with this site as a broader database, I hope that you find these resources helpful for talking about queer issues and for the education of future generations.
