Allyson Brokaw, Sunset Fireweed

My name is Allyson Brokaw and I come from a military family. I have been able to see and explore many different countries and landscapes all around the world, which not many people have had the opportunity to be able to do. On every trip I ended up taking pictures of the world and landscapes around me. These experiences built my passion for photography, specifically landscape photography.
I took this image, Sunset Fireweed, one day over the summer while I was out exploring. I turned around to look back towards the sunset, where I saw the light coming through the fireweed. With all the variations in the clouds behind the fireweed, I immediately set up to take the picture. To me, this image serves as a reminder to go out and enjoy the world around you, because you never know when you might find little moments like this.

Jackie Bowling, Rose Hips

I am a retiree reinventing myself as an artist and currently am enrolled in intermediate photography at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Not only am I interested in photography, but have also taken multiple courses in both drawing and painting. The Rose Hip image was captured this past fall while hiking near Eklutna Lake. The late afternoon sun backlighting the subject seemed to make the rose hip appear gemlike.
