Introduction
Hindi Poetry comprise of the numerous writing systems within the framework of poetry and Hindi language. These systems have developed over a period of almost one thousand years and are broadly classified into four prominent forms (styles) based on the date of production:
Adikal (the Early Period), 11th-14th century
Bhaktikal (the Devotional Period), 14th-18th century
Ritikal (the Scholastic Period) , 18th–20th century
Adhunikkal (the Modern Period), 20th century onwards
The poetry was produced in dialects such as Braj, Bundeli, Awadhi, Kannauji, Khariboli, Marwari, Angika, Vajjika, Maithili, Magahi, Bhojpuri and Chhattisgarhi. From the 20th century, works produced in Standard Hindi, a register of Hindustani, are sometimes regarded as the only basis of modern poetry in Hindi.
