Peterson is considered Canada’s foremost jazz pianist. He begun his career in Montreal playing on a weekly radio station and from 1944 to 1947 performed with Johnny Holmes Orchestra. Norman Granz invited him to appear at Carnegie Hall in 1949 as part of a JATP concert series and toured regularly with them until the early 1950s. In 1952 he formed his own trio featuring Irving Ashby on guitar and Ray Brown on double bass. The trio is featured on the record, along with the Swing Brass Orchestra. As well, this LP is released on Verve, a record label formed by Granz that absorbed his two previous labels Clef and Norgran.
