This album is third of a series of concept albums that explore the use of unusual meter and polytonality within a jazz context. The two previous albums, Time Out and Time Further Out have also become classics on the Columbia label. “Eleven Four”, written by saxophonist Paul Desmond, uses a pattern of five beats, then two sets of three to create the feel of eleven notes.  "Castilian Blues" and "Castilian Drums" have time signatures of 5/4, the latter of which is a drum solo by Joe Morello.
