The Frick Fine Arts Library ~ Early History

Archives and Primary Sources

The use of archives and primary sources, whether in the archives or not, were key to moving forward with this project. Because there are finding aids for most of the material I viewed, unless it was a newspaper article, I can share a couple of those here with you now. The first is the finding aid for the Chancellor papers of John Bowman at the University of Pittsburgh

And the second is the finding aid for the Helen Clay Frick Papers in New York:

Much of the primary source material from the Helen Clay Frick Papers I have shared throughout this book, as well as digitized publications in Documenting Pitt. Those materials were found with help from archivists and also through manual searching on my part.  The newspaper articles, such as the one from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, were searched for using the Google News Archive.
