The Art of Food in Frogtown and Rondo

Growing up in the south

"So thirteen that's (?)." "Twelve, I'm sorry there was twelve of us." "And did you all cook or just?" "Well, yes I have some brothers that can really cook. My brother Reverend Walker, he's cooking now. But all the girls and some of the boys cook good. But I was one of those that really stayed in the kitchen. I think more than any of the rest of them. My older sisters maybe they did too and I just didn't see it but I use to watch them cook." "So did you grow up in the south?" "Yes." "In where?" "In Illinois, East St. Louis, Illinois but I always say St. Louis Illinois. It's a bridge dividing the two cities St. Louis and East St. Louis."
