Eva Ruf Translation Romans 8:28-39
Translation:
28- "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (NIV).
29-"For God knew his people in advance (NLT), he also ordeyned (Tyndale) to become like his Son (NLT) that he might be the first born among many brothers (NIV)."
30- "And having chosen them, he called them to come to him (NLT), and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified" (ESV).
31-"What shall we then say vnto these things? Yf God be on our syde: who can be agaynste us?" (Tyndale).
32-"He did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-(NIV) won't he also give us everything else?" (NLT).
33-"Who then will compel us? (NLT) It is God who justifies" (ESV).
34-"Who then shall condempn? (Tyndale) Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also (NIV) pleading (NLT) for us" (NIV).
35- "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? (NIV) Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (NLT)".
36- "As it is written, "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered" (NIV).
37- "Neverthelesse in all these thinges (Tyndale) overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us" (NLT).
38-"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons (NIV), neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow--not even the power of hell can separate us from God's love" (NLT).
39-"No power in the sky above or the earth below (NLT) will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord" (ESV).
The reason why I chose to set up my translation this way is because there were parts from each translation that I liked and others that I didn't. Most of the time I agreed with the NIV or the NLT and chose those passages to be represented in my translation. I rarely used Tyndale's translation because it proved harder to read and I didn't think the message of this passage was shown as clearly as it was in the NLT, ESV, and NIV versions. For verse 28, I chose to solely use the NIV version because this is the version I have previously memorized and knew for this verse. For verse 31 I chose to use Tyndale's version because even though the lettering is hard to read, the message of the verse got to "the point" better compared to the others. Then, in verse 36 I chose only to use the NIV version because it was the only version that used "face death" instead of "killed" in this context and I liked that word choice better. In the rest of the verses I used a combination of all four translations, forming my own translations of each verse. The NLT seemed to try to word their version in a way that most people nowadays could understand. The NIV and ESV seemed to be modern translations but also tried to stick with some of the historical translations as well. (Example: verse 33 in NLT, "Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own?". Verse 33 in ESV, "Who shall bring any charge against God's elect?". Verse 33 NIV, "Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen"?). I think that a combination of all of these translations helps us determine the message of this passage, which is that God brings glory to those who love him and that nothing can separate us from God's love.

In reference to this article, I like how Rodgers states that in the NIV God is the subject of the verse. That helped me with my reasoning in why I chose NIV over the other translations for Romans 8:28.
