Path 7: Comparisons to Tucholsky's Photo Reportages in Magazines
My rationale for this path and its structure:
Before publishing GG, Tucholsky published several articles that were accompanied by photographs in publications that were directed at the working class: The "Arbeiter-Illustrierte-Zeitung (AIZ) and "Die Freie Welt".However, looking at some examples, it becomes clear that the photographs were often just mere ornaments or illustrations for Tucholsky's texts. An effective montage principle that would guide the readers, not to speak of actually teaching them how to see photographs in relation to the text, would only be used in GG.
