"Space to Dream": Queer Speculative Disability Narratives & Their Liberatory Value

Narrative Prosthesis

This term comes from David Mitchell and Sharon Snyder's book, Narrative Prosthesis: Disability and the Dependencies of Discourse. Their book argues that disability is often used as a metaphor in media to signify something else (often something bad), and that media is reliant on this association. They argue that this metaphorical use of disability is harmful to disabled people, and that disability should only be present in media if it is a well-rounded element of someone's identity.
