Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

However, the genre goes far beyond just those tropes (not that it's wrong to love those types). Fantasy writers are people who expand their imaginations to new worlds or hidden ones within our own, construct new rules of reality and and magic, create new races and cultures or draw from mythology and cultures of old, and then bring us to their worlds by writing. In this assignment you will be asked to create your own world as I guide you through steps and then bring us into your world by creating a scene based on everything put together. For each activity I want you to create and log into a Hypothesis account by clicking on the boxes on the right and post the answers as page notes, this will make them visible and easily accessible to both me and you when you come to the final project and might want to refer back to what you put together in previous steps. And so, we begin...
