Step 1: Identify the number of hours/days actually available
- Identify your project start date.
- Identify your project due date.
- List the scheduled holidays between the start date and the due date (bank holidays, vacation, typical family days, etc.).
- Estimate unscheduled interruptions (family days, illness, emergencies, mental health days, etc.).
- (Optional) If you also have another job that has a set schedule or number of hours, note how many “working days” (7.5 hours) these will fill during the course of the project.
- Identify working days available:
- Number of weekdays between start date and due date.
- Subtract scheduled holidays.
- Subtract estimate of unscheduled interruptions.
- (Opt) Subtract job-working-days.
- The final number gives you your total number of working days available.
