Reflection
Reflection is a method many creative writers and artists use in order to better understand their creative process and activities. The creative practitioner reflects and reviews various aspects of their activities, decisions, and process involved in creating the work. The reflective analysis may also include a textual analysis of the finished artefact, in an attempt to gain a deeper understanding from a post-textual, reader-side perspective.
If reflection is the sole research method required, such as for a reflective analysis of a creative portfolio, critical theory is often an optional component. Note that use of critical theory, however, greatly enhances a writer’s understanding of their chosen form; thus, it can greatly enhance a reflective analysis.
