According to Barthes, myths contain two semiological systems: a linguistic system and the myth itself. I think it is easier to understand it explained this way; the way in which we use symbols to direct one's attention to where we want and divert one's attention from where we do not. He represents this relational formation as follows: This is the foundation for discussing the act of meaning making.
But let us use our own example: Coding. The signifier would be the hard code. It alone cannot produce a functional website. But when signified by the HTML and CSS coding languages, it can create the links to navigate my website, which becomes the sign of this system.
In order to understand the connections and boundaries between human and machine, we need to be able to identify and deconstruct the processes behind the narrative creation and how "difference" is formed. This way we learn how humans work by making the meaningless into the meaningful.
In this case, we will be deconstructing the myths associated with the symbolism present in Battlestar Galactica and the Mormon Transhumanist Association.
