Meal Plans at CWRU

Refund Wasted Meals

The last potential solution that has been identified would be the process of refunding the meal swipes, not used weekly by the student. This solution is decently complex however the process of eliminating all meals each week even if they are not used is unfair to the students. Many students fail to eat there allotted amount of meals each week and this leads to a large amount of money gone down the drain. CWRU feels that this is a fair set of policies. By refunding the wasted meal swipes, students and families would feel more comfortable purchasing the meal plan to begin with. Families and students would also feel more comfortable purchasing larger meal plans as well. This is the most fair solution that offers a decrease in expense of the meal plan and minimizes the profit lost for CWRU and Bon Appetit. CWRU and Bon Appetit choose the price of the plans based on many factors, and they believe that this is the most fair price for the students. By just refunding the students for meal swipes they never used, CWRU would not have to change the price of the plans. Food is a necessary part of a students life so if this solution were to be placed in effect, the amount of times students eat at one of the dining services per week would not change on average. Refunding the students the price of their wasted meal swipes is the most viable solution that increases fairness for the student, decrease financial burden, and minimize loss pf profit for the university and Bon Appetit. In conclusion, if CWRU were to begin offering a refund of any sort for wasted meal plans, students would feel much more satisfied with the current dining services. CWRU could refund just a percentage of each meal swipe and still create positive outcomes. This solution is somewhat complex but offers the best outcome while minimizing loss.
