Henry David Thoreau was a writer who recorded his whole experiences of living on Walden Pond, as well as his analysis and evaluation of worldly life, nature and spiritual philosophy in his famous work 《Walden》. Thoreau's purpose was to expose the idea that in order to define humanity, people need to forget about the secular society, and lived in a simplified way of life and be integrated with nature.

Thoreau saw today's society in the original perspective, and he thought that desire would not bring satisfaction; it also would waste peoples ' life. In the article, where Thoreau described the railroad, he wrote " Each one is a man, an Irishman, or a Yankee man. The rails are laid on them, and they are covered with sand, and the cars run smoothly over them .". By picturing the railroad and the train, the author used the image to mock the vulgarians. Thoreau criticized the blindness of human beings with sarcasm, with humor to denounce human inaction. It was near the edge of collapse, people gave up the dignity, personality, with labor in exchange for the meager rewards. People were greedy, they lost their hearts and painfully struggle with the society as a whole. Where the industrial development period, as the period of the rich material life, but Thoreau wasn't fooled by this kind of material life, and he had good control of his desire to live alone. From the beginning of the primitive times, what could be regarded as " wisdom " had been cast aside by the development of the society. People only felt greedy for the rest of nature; they were always hungry for something, sometimes like a bottomless pit, without end. In Thoreau's short life , he tried to encourage people to simplify their lives , to make time for life and taste your life . It was justified when Thoreau talked about his point of view of life . "Simplify , simplify . Instead of three meals a day , if it was necessary to eat but one ; instead of a hundred dishes , five ; and reduce other things in proportion ." . Through his life experience , he told the world that does / did not to be confused by complicated life and lose the direction and meaning of life . The human need to be the steersman of their life , and sail away . He thought that if people could live the simple life as prescribed by the laws of the universe , there would be no such anxiety to disturb the peace of mind . For example , when the author revealed the reason why he chose to live in the wood , he said , " I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately , to front only the essential facts of life , and see if I could not learn what it had to teach , and not , when I came to die , discover that I had not lived ." . Thoreau abandoned material and wealth , away from the world and the world , and lived in a simple reclusive life in the secondary forest near Walden Pond . The coarse linen , the shabby room , the coarse tea , no flashy , as if there had no secular fetter . Everything in the little place that he lived was so simple ; everything was so natural . Everyone has his way of living . Some people in the society are hard to maintain their principles ; Some people in the world have a " good sense of self , " as the success of the self-belief . However, Thoreau was hidden in the mountains and forests, and blend himself into the ground, and pursued the truth about human nature.

Through the use of metaphor, the author revealed an idea that people can seek for the humanity by blending themselves into the embrace of nature. In the article, it says, " My head is hands and feet. I feel all my best faculties concentrated on it. My instinct tells me that my head is an organ for burrowing .". By using the literary technique of metaphor, readers understand that Thoreau used all his life to seek for the humanity; and nature, the ground itself was the truth to humanity. His head was an organ to explore the universal knowledge to discover what was the original meaning of life. Thoreau acknowledged that only in the embrace of nature, people could be fearless and open-minded and define what human-being is. In the author's eyes, simple mountain forest was his dependence and life was his attribution. Thoreau wrote, " Such was not my abode, for I found myself suddenly neighbor to the birds; not by having imprisoned one, but having caged myself near them .". By using the image of birds, he became a part of the birds and a part of nature. Through this, the author revealed his love for the cabin, the love for the mountains, the love of some small animals and the love for nature and everything, this kind of love was inseparable with his simple optimistic sentiment. The author treated his life as a dream, and Walden was his fantasy world and of freedom that could connect him back to nature. When a person needs to face social rules, and these rules were right at the time, he did not have the power to above the rule, but unwilling to bend under the rules, Thoreau decided to jump out of the rules by getting out of the society and living in the wood. Through Thoreau's life experiences, he told readers that not are confused by the complicated life and lost direction and meaning of life. If people can lead a simple life of the rules of the universe, there won't be so anxious to disturb the peace of mind.

Today, in the materialistic society intended, people began to lose and confused, Thoreau spirit becomes more precious and important. Life likes a dream, but everyone shades differently. People might have accustomed to the blatant social life, perhaps already accustomed to the flashing lights and lavish entertainment. People may have veiled eyes and paralyzed the ears by the secular world, and can't see the authenticity of life. It is their own choice. If people want to change and find out what life is, they need to forget about the society, and they can be like Thoreau, living in the hollow, enjoying the real-life .he real life.
