Mark Twain in German-Language Newspapers and Periodicals

Ordway, Edward Warren

Edward Warren Ordway (1864-1958) was a lawyer and political activist who served as secretary for the Anti-Imperialist League of New York (1899-1904). He was also a part of the Filipino Progress Association, which he formed in 1905. He was concerned about American political involvement in the Philippines and wrote extensively on the topic. Ordway and Mark Twain exchanged at least ten letters between 1901 and 1905 (see Union Catalog of Clemens Letters). The Edward Warren Ordway papers are kept at the New York Public Library.
