Interviewee talks about working as a crane operator at VMZ and quitting VMZ in anticipation of the first wave of layoffs in the 1990s. She talks about her and husband becoming small business owners of a small grocery store, and describes how business was good at first but then became unsustainable due to high tax rates. She talks about training as a sharpshooter and competing in national competitions, and she mentions the way that VMZ sponsored many different sports and athletes. She compares working conditions and worker benefits between private companies and the state-owned VMZ.
