This stems from the idea that lesbians in the Women's Movement were often classed as "not real women" but as masculine or aligned with men. Resnikoff highlights that women labelled as lesbian, regardless of their sexuality, were often working class women who broke gender norms, creating division within the Women's Movement to hide the real struggle of class.
