This book was produced by the Italian missionary Giulio Aleni at a Jesuit mission in Fujian Province, China. Many of the images in this book were taken from Jerónimo Nadal's Evangelicae Historiae Imagines, and Aleni took those images and reproduced them using woodblock printing, a Chinese techinique. He combined European religious iconography and the reproducing of some images into Chinese-style elements and the depiction of Chinese people.
