Reflection on The Intimacy of Conversation is fading away
Overall in this semester, the course for Psychology of Social Media went really well for me. The is reason is that I got to improve myself, my writing and better at reading. Also, when I first started this course, I had many issues with the grammar and sentence structure. However, I challenged myself for each of the paper to do really well on and always aim for A. Now that semester is almost over, I see that my writing skills improve from the feedbacks, which was given by my peers and my professors. For me, the final essay was most challenging for me.
The most challenging part of my final essay was to pick a topic which interested me the most. When I looked back at all the reading that I have done for Dr. Gellar, I found that the chapters from Alone Together by Sherry Turkle interested me the most. It a topic on how technology is changing from the way it used to be. The communication is very easy, but the intimacy of a conversation is fading away due to the technology. For example, direct conversation teaches people to be patient for a response because they can see the person thinking for a response. However, when we try to communicate through digital devices our habit changes and we want to know the answer immediately, even if the conversation is not important. Furthermore, technology is controlling how we behave now since average people spent 10 hours- thirty-nine minutes every day on their devices. That is the reason why people do not want to travel and meet up someone when they can reach anyone under a minute. That is I choose this topic.
When I first started with the essay I did not how I am going to start my essay. So, I started researching my topic and found several useful sources, which can help me to write my essay. Then, I began to write in two pages, I just wrote anything which came into my mind and brainstorms ideas. That was my first drafts. During the class conversation, I had some idea how I would like to organize my essay. Then, I wrote my second draft. In this draft, I figure that I could improve on quotations and use it rightful way. Also, I got feedback from the writing center. Then, wrote my third draft and when we had the peer review workshop, I learned how can I write better topic sentences and conclusion. From the feedbacks which I got from the workshop and from peers, I began to write my fourth draft. This draft was so better than what I started with. I did not just end there, I revise so many times just to make sure everything is clear and organize. That is how I completed it.
In conclusion, the essay was little complicated since we had to pick a topic, and also had to use three or more sources in my essay. However, this essay was the best-written essay which I have done for this class and I am very proud of myself, since I wrote seven pages. Also, I get to write a paper which interested me the most. All in all, while working on this paper, I get to learn more about the topic. In addition, how to write the better introduction, organize the paper, use sources wisely and much more. Lastly, the psychology of social media class shaped me to be a better writer.
