Literacy Narrative Reflection

It was mid-August, when I met my advisor for the first time. During this meeting, we discuss what classes should I will be taking for the fall semester. I decided for my FIQWS class The Psychology of social media will be best, since I love technology. I will have an idea how will Psychology plays role in the social media. However, I  did not know at that time that FIQWS is an English class. Therefore, I was very frightened on my first class. The reason is that I am not a great writer and my grammar is really terrible. So, I wonder how will I manage to write college-level essays.

On the first day of the class, after meeting up with all my peer and instructor I felt very relieved and comfortable. This class is about how can we developed our skills to be a better writer. On the first paper we, had to do for this course was to write a Literacy Narrative and we had to do a rough draft before the final paper was due. I got an idea on what to write when my professor talked about Brock Turner, who is accused of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. Right away I knew I am going to write about podcast Serial, Adnan story.

When I was writing the first draft it was very difficult for me and I didn’t know how to start. Nevertheless, I summarized Adnan story and written my response. When my peer checked my work, my peer liked and told me to fixed grummer errors. Later, I showed to my draft to my instructor and got feedback from her. After getting all the feedbacks, I begin to write my final draft and the finished paper looked really different from what I started. It was much organized and much clear to my connection with the reading.

While I was writing this paper, I wanted my audience to be regular people, so anyone can read it. In addition,  I was hoping to accomplish my audience will have their own opinion whether Adnan killed his ex-girlfriend Hae or not based on the summary that I had written on my essay. Also, I wanted the reader know that this reading had influenced me to build up curiosity. Which leads me to continue to read and impacted me to read genre similar to Adnan’s like crime or mystery. Furthermore, I wanted to tell the audience, how social media lend me to have the positive experience and I can have my own thoughts and my opinion when I was reading.

Although, my paper wasn’t perfect, due to grammar error and my writing. However, it helped me to developed my writing skills. Each time I was revising my essay I had found some mistakes. Moreover, I get to learned how to use the website called Scalar and how it looks more like an article when I post pictures and video. All in all, experience on the Literacy Narrative paper was hard for, but I completed on time. Most importantly, I understand that there is always time for me to improve my writing skills.
