After the Decembrists completed “their so-called labor terms… usually years ahead of schedule thanks to successive sentence reductions from the emperor,” (Chicago notation Road to Oblivion 260) they began to settle around ****** as they were prohibited from settling directly in any city of Siberia. The Decembrists, together with eleven wives who had followed them into exile, started their lives in the rough country of Siberia, adapting to a drastically different lifestyle and deciding how to move forward.
