This sample shows an ELD 1 student’s one-sentence summary based on a book. The grammar and writing show an over reliance on Google Translate. 

 

This sample shows the same ELD 1 student progressing in her language development. Her grammar still needs improvement, but it speaks to the addition of details and multiple characters represented. She also learned to include an image that helps illustrate her summary. 

 

The most current sample shows the power of collaborative writing. For this assignment, the teacher paired the ELD 1 with an ELD 2 student. The two worked together to produce this summary and image. Though it is not evident here, the students also learned to incorporate gifs. 

 

Students access online research by using Google Translate. In this picture, one student speaks Farsi and the other Spanish. They were able to collaborate on their research despite the language barrier. 

 

Students work in pairs. One has a Google Slide open while the other uses Google Translate to help understand the research. 

 

Ms. Huerta walks around to monitor progress and assist as needed.
