Synagogue in Lafayette

Temple Shalom is the central Jewish Congregation in Lafayette. The Temple was founded in 1869; in 1881 Governor Alexander Mouton donated land for the congregants to build the synagogue. Initially called Temple Rodeph Shalom up until 1992, the synagogue started out as an Orthodox organization. It was around 1889 when it switched to Reform, which is what it remains today.
