Jewish Community in Lafayette

Sisterhood

The Sisterhoods were a gathering of Jewish women who participated in and organized educational and humanitarian projects. Sisterhoods were developed on the local (Temple), state, and national levels. The Lafayette Sisterhood was founded in 1913. The National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods (NFTS) brought together more than 110,000 Jewish women for these projects. Causes included promoting Jewish education, support for Israel, and services to the blind. The Sisterhoods also held many fundraising events such as raffles, bake sales, and making spaghetti sauce.
