Over 100000 are supposed to be in camp and in training in the district Saw about 25 large motor transports on way to be shipped to France. Every town in South England is full of soldiers At Winchester went first to Cathedral. Very plain exterior but interior well proportioned + fine. The screen back of choir being very elaborate of carved stone. Cathedral in Salisbury + here located in fine park. Got good small rooms at George Hotel + good table. An officer in Sitting room spoke of scarcity of officers saying one camp of 1500 recruits had but 1 officer + men were complaining of lack of food, equipment, etc. Papers are requesting people to donate blankets as the men have but one
