Texas State University (NTSU)

In 1946, Texas State University (now the University of North Texas), started the country's first degree program in Dance Band Arranging and founded the now-famous One O'Clock Lab Band.

"The jazz degree at North Texas State (Now UNT) was founded in 1947. This was the first established bachelor’s degree in jazz studies in the United States. Interestingly, this degree was originally called a “dance band major” because of the unpalatable connotations the word “jazz” held (Hall 2015)."
