La imagen de la otredad/ The Image of Otherness
----
This set of projects focuses on analyzing the concept of otherness based on various historical and cultural manifestations. These projects address the exploitation in circuses of people with bodies considered abnormal, exploring how these practices contributed to the construction of stereotypes and prejudices towards those perceived as different. Additionally, they investigate photographic representations of the Mapuche people in the 19th century, examining how these images were used to affirm colonial narratives and perpetuate the marginalization and otherness of this indigenous community. Finally, the medical conception of madness throughout history is analyzed, tracing how perceptions and treatments of mental illness have evolved and how they have contributed to the stigmatization and marginalization of those considered "mad" in different times and cultures. These projects provide a critical look at how notions of otherness are constructed and perpetuated in different historical and social contexts.
