Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

When speaking to a supervisor

Context: Asking for anything (days off/requests in boundaries with other coworkers)Highlights
- Adding that they do not need to reply right away. Trying to make explicit disclosure that I am not trying to push them, but rather to aid my own ADHD.
- Since this is through online correspondences, tone indicators become a thing. Adding emoji’s adding like seen here, tone indicators (multiple uses of exclamation points to say that you are excited and you are not really yelling) or random smiley faces. I approach requests with tones in mind, even if I know that my supervisor is not going to send me to the dungeon because I wanted to work from home or call off. Even for something as simple as schedule/availability changes, I still meet apprehensively because I don’t want to cause inconvenience.
- "You're going to hate me for real", in regards to being annoyed by me and my multiple requests. Pointing out that I know that she might be thinking that this is all an inconvenience
► **Important note: my supervisor also used to be another writing specialist prior to their position as assistant coordinator. I feel much more comfortable asking them for any schedule changes, however, I still do fear that they might begin to grow tired of my requests. While my requests are not outlandish, I do not want them to think that I might be too high maintenance or I intend to cause them inconvenience.
