Bourgeois Interior

Just as the bourgeois interior is known for its oppressive nature,  Balzac is famous for his lengthy, detailed and wordy descriptions. Therefore, in order to best visualize the bourgeois interior depicted throughout La Peau de chagrin, I used the most of the text descriptions, coupled with the most overwhelming visualization i.e. loom. This visualization is perfect as it allows for a detailed understanding of the evolution and importance of every word in Balzac's descriptions but does so in a way that at first glance seems staggering in its grandeur and intensity, almost incomprehensible until you fully immerse yourself in it. This isn't just particular to the work of Balzac. In fact, in all of the novels analyzed the bourgeois interior has this overwhelming and oppressive characteristic which we will analyze in the second part of this project. I also believe that the best way to represent this constant claustrophobic environment present in the novels which informs the story, the vocabulary used as well as the rhythm of the text is with an equally overwhelming and striking visualization. In the visualization for Dorian Gray, I will use most of the text's descriptions. For The Tale of the 672nd Night, I used the description of the house and the objects owned by the merchant's son. The main difference between the merchant's son and the two other main characters is that he doesn't feel overwhelmed by his possessions even through he is surrounded by them and the description can feel overwhelming to the reader. Futhemore, the nature of me having to retype the passages by hand allowed me to hone the visualization in on the objects composing the bourgeois interior according to Hugo von Hofmannsthal.
