Louisiana History

Louisiana's Old State Capital served as the seat of state government from 1847 until the building of a new state capital in 1935 by Governor Huey P. Long. This capital building witnessed many historic as well as tragic events throughout its long history. The building sits perched along the bluffs overlooking the mighty Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It is now open as a museum housing important state treasures including the gun believed to have been used to shoot and faultily wound Governor Long.
