Small, round flowers

There are clusters of small, round flowers that branch off from the stem at loci where leaves are attached; this differs from the botanical garden plant, which had long, trumpetlike flowers. The lesser number of flowers and difference in their shape/structure likely means that less pollination occurs. However, having smaller, less-complex flowers means that Scrophularia californica expends less energy on blooms which can instead be dedicated to other functions.
