Herbarium: Medicinal Plants as Information

Schrophularia californica stem

The sample has a stem that is approximately 18 inches long and approximately 0.5 inches wide, which differs from Galvezia juncea which had longer stems. As a result of its long stem, the plant is likely able to grow tall and therefore reach light better than its shorter counterparts. The thickness of the stem likely enables it to transmit more water and other materials to/from the leaves at its extremities.
