Long Branches of Lycium torreyi

The main stem of Lycium torreyi is very long, with many stems branching off from the original main stem. These long branches occur frequency across the long stem.

When grown in nature, these long stems form a bush/shrub-like plant. The outer thorned stems provide protection against the outer environment. This creates a sort of buffer between the outside environment and the protected stem.
