An In-Depth View of the Polygonaceae Plant Family: Exploring Rumex Acetosella and Eriogonum Cinereum.
An In-depth Look at Rumex Acetosella and Similar Specimen
After investigating our main plant, Rumex Acetosella, we took to visiting the UCLA Herbarium and observed some plants that were similar to the assigned one. Once we finished reviewing our physical specimen sheet, we went out to look for Eriogonum Cinerereum in a certain section of the gardens. As a partnership, Leah and I made sure to collect 5 items that related to the environment Eriogonum C. was in. Following our field collections, the investigation was followed by annotations, making observations, and trying to make connections between Rumex acetosella and Eriogonum cinereum. For instance, both of these plants belong to the plant family of Polygonaceae which means they'd have similar characteristics in their shape and potentially their medicinal uses. While Rumex acetosella has properties to help with inflammation and pain, Eriogonum cinereum also can be taken in a tea form to alleviate headaches and stomach aches. On the other hand, the plants differ in that Rumex Acetosella is a smaller and shorter plant that has red flower attachments on the top of the branches. Whereas Eriogonum cinereum is larger in height and width, it is more like a shrub.
In reviewing the material medical and metadata associated with this plant, we have found that the medicinal properties are helpful with women's cramps, diarrhea, and inflammation.
