Herbarium: Medicinal Plants as Information

Color of Pedicularis Densiflora

The entire plant gives off a dull light-green, orange-brownish color, rather than a bright, deep green that is characteristic of most plants we think of with green leaves. The plant consists of green stems and a flowery portion, which is a bright pink/red color in real life, and this was partially captured by the coloration in the CCH2 website. Perhaps the bright magenta color served as a distinguishing characteristic of the plant, which is easily visible to animals and other widlife in order to let them know that it is a parasite.
