Building T-322: Quartermaster's Storehouse

Built in 1911. This building remained the hub for incoming supplies and services for the 4th Infantry during the CCC period. It has been HMFM's Main Museum Building since 1975.

Building T-310: Boiler Office
2
Built in 1937. This structure housed a coal-fired boiler to provide heat for the main CCC warehouse. From c. 1948 to 1970, the Montana National Guard converted the building into a caretaker’s quarters, adding additional space and bath facilities. The building is now an exhibit space for the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History, and contains a permanent exhibit on the CCC.

Building T-312: Warehouse

Built in 1936. This large building served as the primary supply depot for CCC projects in the Fort Missoula District. After World War II the Montana Army National Guard used it as a drill haul. The structure is now administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Building T-316: CCC Administration Building

Built in 1936. From construction until 1942, this Cape Cod- style structure served as as the central location from which Corps projects were assigned and supported by a large staff of officers and clerical workers. A nearby temporary building to the west housed WUBL, the Fort’s radio operation. After WWII, it was utilized as a headquarters and armory by the Montana National Guard and for a brief period in the late 1970’s as offices for the National Center for Career Education. In 2000 the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History began restoration of the structure, and it now serves as their central exhibit building.

Building 4: Recreation Center
2
Built in 1940. Fort Missoula received substantial appropriations from the Works Progress Administration in the late 1930s to reconstruct and rehabilitate many of the post’s older buildings and to construct new ones. This large log-built recreation center featured air conditioning, a basketball court on the first floor and a basement bowling alley. Further amenities included a kitchen, bar, and stage. At the time of its completion, it was the largest log structure in the state. Intended for CCC use, it primarily served the internees during the later Alien Detention Center period. The building was destroyed by fire on December 7, 1946.

Building T-1: Post Headquarters

Built in 1938. The Works Progress Administration-appropriated funds provided for construction of this structure, which enveloped the previous post chapel. The project incorporated new heating, electrical work, and phone line installation. Today it is owned by HMFM and used for collections storage and educational programming.

Built in 1934. During the CCC program, many men were employed to organize the supplies and equipment that was stored here and sent out to companies throughout the district. This structure supplemented T-312 as a distribution point for CCC supplies. This building is now owned and used by the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula for storage.

Built in 1940. This building was designed to be similar to buildings constructed in the 1911 era of Fort Missoula. The first floor held a fire station and guard offices with cell blocks on the second floor. Today, it is home to the US Forest Service’s Fire and Aviation Management division.
