Land use refers to any modification of the natural environment for human use, including agricultural production.
In an food-related context, the term is often used in connection with environmental impact and/or zoning, which refers to the control of land use by the government (or other authority).

- Parcels of land (zones) may be marked for agricultural or urban development, may allow only certain types of establishments (e.g. fast food restaurants vs. grocery stores), etc.
