FGCSs are "the first, or one of the first, in their families to pursue postsecondary education" (Inkelas, Daver, Vogt, & Leonard, 2007, p. 404).
Who are first-generation college students?
According to Allison (2012), the first-generation college student population is comprised of students from historically disadvantaged groups. This includes:
students of color
students from low socio-economic backgrounds
students from immigrant families
