Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

I had always seen posts on the internet with with a hashtag saying BTS or K-pop and I never really knew who these people were until I found out during my freshman year of college. I regularly saw people, typically teenage women, going crazy over them and never really understood why. During my freshman year I started hearing more about them but it was only during this class when I actually listened to one of their songs. In this class one of our assignments was to watch a video about BTS which talked about how the group prepared for their shows and how they all played different roles within the group. The members of BTS had different roles such as the big brother, the rapper, the leader and so on.
Within a group discussion during class, we talked about how BTS tries to adapt to different cultures in order to gain more popularity. Specifically members talked to different rappers in order to adapt to American culture. The internet is another aspect that allowed them gain more fame mainly because it allowed them to spread their content faster and in different places around the world. Not only does this help BTS gain more reputation but the exportation of its pop culture is a classic soft power tool. Soft power It is ridiculously important if a country were to want a positive sway over a another’s populace because essentially it is a way of getting others to want the outcomes that you want.I know that some people in the class will probably dislike this comment, but to be completely honest, I am not a very big fan of BTS or K-pop in general but from watching the BTS episode I can appreciate the effort that they put in for their fans.
