From the title of the movie Kung Fu Hustle, I had a preconceived notion that it was going to be serious action movie filled with suspenseful fight scenes. Although there were multiple action scenes, I was surprised to find out so early on in the movie that it was actually going to be a comedy. Aside from that, it also strayed away from the typical kung fu and martial arts movie archetype. I know that the movie will be memorable due to the fact that it is extremely unique and I have yet to see anything similar to it. What made the movie so comedic was the unexpected humor within serious situations. An example of this could be the scene where Sing, the main character, is choosing people he would like to fight, but every time he picks a person it is revealed that they have an advantage over him. Other scenes such as the assassination attempt of the Landlady by Sing and Bone, would remind me of the humor that most likely resemble the three stooges.

While watching the movie I noticed that even though it was filled with comedic scenes, there was also a great storyline and character development. Throughout the movie the audience sees that characters such as the Landlord and the Landlady develop into new characters with equally new personalities. The most drastic character development came from the main character of the movie, Sing. From an early age Sing was convinced that good guys never win, but as the movie progresses, he realizes his mistake and begins to do the right thing. The director Stephen Chow was able to physically show this character development towards the end of the movie. While Sing was breaking free from his gauze there was a butterfly hatching from a cocoon symbolising rebirth and change.
