Shot/Reverse shot is a conventional way to stage conversation between characters. It entails alternating POV shots, generally in consistent proportions and angles (Jerry Maguire).
Jump cuts are elliptical cuts--they indicate an indefinite interval of time--that appear to be an interruption of a single shot. Their purpose is formal, not narrative (Breathless).
A montage condenses a prolonged event, experience, or transformation into a few seconds by cutting rapidly through a series of images to show the rapid passage of time (Battleship Potemkin).
As it happens, montage is one of the most popular forms of fan video art. Search on YouTube for a montage of virtually any film with even an ambiguously romantic plot or subplot (or a fan's wishful projection of one), and you're likely to find several fan-made videos, often scored with an overwrought ballad.
