Refugees exiting train and being welcomed to Los Angeles (with Celes King III, center). Given a one way ticket and $5 bill from the White Citizens Council (a white supremacist organization), the families from Louisiana were sent to Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Oakland. The White Citizens Council made false promises that the families would be provided with a place to stay and jobs as part of a relocation employment program. In Arizona a reporter told them the truth that there were no homes and jobs. The scheme was to try to discredit the Freedom Riders.
